Pastoral Year 2026

Every Christian is a missionary disciple

Theme

Disciples — and sent out

In the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium (no. 120), Pope Francis reminds us that every baptised person, whatever their place in the Church, is an agent of evangelisation. We no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always missionary disciples.

The 2026 Pastoral Year invites the young people of the Archdiocese of Hanoi to let the light of the Gospel shine from their everyday lives — like a lamp on its stand, giving light to everyone in the house.

Symbols in the Pastoral Year logo

A reflection on the images in the logo — not an official explanation.

  • The bamboo cross

Bamboo is part of every Vietnamese village: supple, resilient, growing together in thickets and hedges. The cross stands at the centre — Christ is the root of a disciple’s life.

  • The white circle

Where the beams of the cross meet is a white circle recalling the Host — the Eucharist nourishes those who are sent.

  • The sun

Golden rays spread out — the light of the Gospel is not kept for oneself but shines for everyone.

  • Two disciples

Two figures with open arms, receiving and giving — disciples are sent two by two, walking with and supporting each other.

  • The open book

The green lines below open like the pages of a book — the Word of God is a lamp for the feet of those who proclaim the Gospel.

  • The golden ribbon

The ribbon carries the words of Mt 5:14, like a mission entrusted to every Christian.

Ideas for young people

Living the Pastoral Year every day

  1. 01

    Meet the Lord every day

Make time for the Word of God, the Mass and Eucharistic Adoration. We cannot give light unless we ourselves have been enlightened.

  2. 02

    Bear witness where you live

At school, at work, on social media — living honestly, kindly and joyfully is the most natural way to proclaim the Gospel.

  3. 03

    Walk with others and invite

Invite a friend to your parish youth group, to Mass, to a gathering. Mission begins with an invitation.

  4. 04

    Serve the least

Join charity work, visit the elderly, the sick and children in need — so that light becomes action.
